5 Common Myths About Social Media

Social media sometimes gets a bad rap about itself. Some businesses still don’t see it to be useful or beneficial to their company, but what they don’t know is that Facebook is viewed by consumers 10-15 times a day. Social media is a legitimate marketing tool that can help benefit many businesses and industries. But, before you totally jump in and get started, let’s clear up a few myths so your goals remain realistic and attainable.

The Benefits are Immeasurable

When you use social media for your business, there are numerous ways you can measure your results. You can see how many people have liked or follow your page, interactions that happened on it, and how many people took action because of your page. Remember, it’s not always about how many likes you have or how even how many people liked you posts, strive for engagement. Strive for authentic, genuine content and the comments and shares will come.

It Will Happen Overnight

Using social media for part of your marketing takes time. Whatever your goals for social media, you need to plan to be in it for the long haul – showing up every day, providing great content and building and engaging with your community. Ads are a great way to see results sooner, but an organized plan to execute and follow-up with potential customers needs to be in a place as well or it will likely not yield the results you want.

More Followers Equals Success

Just because you have thousands of followers does not mean they are seeing it. In fact, only about 2% (or less) of the audience who likes your page will see your posts organically. And, just because someone follows you, doesn’t necessarily mean they are interested in buying from you. It’s more important to look at more meaningful forms of engagement such as clicks or shares. One dedicated follower is more important than 100’s that don’t buy anything.

You need to be on every social media platform

Being on social media is important, but being on every single platform is not always necessary. Not every platform will be beneficial to your business or be a smart way to reach your audience. We recommend picking the best one for your business, usually that is Facebook as it has the widest demographic and biggest audience, and making it a part of your overall marketing strategy. Once you feel comfortable with one platform, add one-at-a-time as it makes sense for your business.

Social media in any form is important. You may have heard us share the importance of video on your pages, which we will always highly recommend. Well, now even Facebook has a way to do video in the moment with one of their latest features Facebook LIVE. Social platforms are not going away, in fact, they are gaining traction as means for marketing products and services. If you’re still not sure where to start, give us a call and schedule a consultation, Pulse has you covered!
