Facebook Update + Video

As we all know Facebook is constantly updating. Its algorithm is always changing, which can make it difficult to know what to post. Well, with the newest Facebook update we know what you really need to post, video. We probably sound like a broken record, saying video is going to be huge, but this update just proves it even more.

Facebook’s newest update is to make sure video is prioritized in the news feed. Facebook will be analyzing the “percent completion” rate for every video the user watches. If a user watches all or most of a video, then Facebook will automatically move similar videos to the top of the user’s news feed. By you watching a good chunk of a video tells Facebook that you find it compelling and want to see more.

This update can benefit businesses that produce longer videos that captivate their audiences. Facebook doesn’t think that there will be a lot of change in people’s news feed, but longer videos may see a slight increase in prioritization. Meaning, people who find longer videos more entertaining will see more of them in your News Feed.  Videos, both long and short, that do not have high completion rates will probably see a dip in distribution and prioritization.

Your Page should focus on creating videos that are relevant and engaging to your audiences. Long videos that people aren’t watching or engaging with will not perform well in New Feed. The best length for a video is whatever length is needed to tell your story that engages people.

The key takeaway from all of this is that video marketing is an incredible way to create new and interesting content that will drive engagement on social media. Now is the perfect time to begin experimenting with video and figuring out what your audience enjoys most.
