Your Business Needs To Be On Social Media. Here’s Why.

Let’s just say that your small business grew last year. Things are going well and you’re happy with the direction your company is going in. You’re not using social media for business but think, “Why would I do that? It takes too much time to manage and business is good.”

Cue the social media rant. Your business NEEDS to have a social media presence. Here’s why.

Even if business is good, it could be better. There are nearly 2 billion users on Facebook and 1 billion on Instagram worldwide. From 2005 – 2015, the number of adults using social media grew from 7% to 69%. Now unless you’re completely happy with gaining no more business, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be trying to reach out to all of those customers. Sure, they’re not all going to be in your area, but that leads us to our next point.

People talk! Have you noticed that social media has become a platform for people to express their thoughts, feelings, views and ideas, even if they might not normally bring it up in person? Users will share all about customer experience, product reviews and more on Facebook and, depending on their experience, encourage their friends to use it or not. That’s FREE advertising for your business! According to Ambassador, 71% of consumers are more likely to recommend a brand to others if they have a positive experience with it on social media. That could mean leaving a review on your page or just creating a post of their own.

One of the biggest reasons to use social is the return on investment. The cost of ads on social media are much lower than a traditional print, TV or radio ad.

Facebook also makes it easy to target a specific audience. No more wasting your money hoping that the right person will see your ad. You know your customer, and you can create audiences that match your current customers, spending your dollars wisely and to those who will most likely be interested in your product or service. You can also choose if you want users to see ads on their desktop or mobile phone, on their newsfeeds, even right column ads that stay on the right side of your screen.

If you’re using traditional advertising, there’s no way to see how it’s performing. Sure, you may get a few customers that mention it to you. But with social media ads, you’re able to see if they’re performing well or poorly immediately and adjust message, budget or audience to see if it performs better. Or, if you notice an ad isn’t doing so hot, you can change it and try again!

Lastly, when you use social media, it shows that you’re relevant. Posting consistently will ensure that followers see you. Do it enough and you’ll be the first business that comes to mind when they need your service!
