Using Emotions in Advertising

As marketers, we appreciate a good advertisement. Many of us watch the Super Bowl for the commercials and afterward, we might even go look one up on YouTube that we especially loved.

But why do we like some ads more than others? Is it the catchy slogan or an attractive design? Well, yeah, that’s part of it. But it’s a lot more than that. Chances are your favorite ads made you feel something. When we feel an emotion, we feel more connected to the ad and what it’s selling or promoting.

Studies show people rely on emotions, rather than information, to make brand decisions. So why wouldn’t you try to create a feeling when you’re selling your product? It’s a new year and a great time to start over and try something new. If you’ve been promoting your service or product without any emotion, try it and see if it makes a difference.
