The Three “E’s” of Any Great Video

Back in the day, video killed the radio star. Now, video is killing it in the marketing game. In today’s fast-paced, always-changing, need-for-instant-response world, video marketing is the next big thing.

Looking at society as a whole reflects one very prominent characteristic: we LOVE to be entertained. Sports, movies, music, etc. Entire industries have been built on this basic desire. This need for amusement is what is making video-based marketing so popular and so powerful.

First of all, videos are ENGAGING. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. Whether it be funny, inspiring, or even simply informational, an engaging video generates a more powerful emotional response because it engages more of our senses. Videos pull us in and captivate our undivided attention for that brief amount of time, which is certainly enough to get the right message across.

Unlike a picture, graphic, or post, scrolling through a newsfeed and seeing a video sparks an interest that inspires people to see what it’s about. It is EXCITING to see what will happen. Am I going to end up laughing like crazy? Will there be some big surprise ending? Only one way to find out.

Video evokes EMOTION in a different way a photo can. You view a photo and yes, you can tear up, get happy or mad. But you are using only one of your senses. Video allows you to see AND hear what’s going on. Hearing  someone laugh, cry or get angry also allows your emotions to intervene making the experience impact you differently.

And that’s why over 92% of social media users will share video content, creating avenues for videos to go viral. People want their friends and family to see what generated a response in themselves, and it’s what makes videos so relatable. A messy kitchen in need of cleaning supplies in a commercial looks like a scene from a potential client’s own home. A well-worded vlog makes you feel like the spokesperson is just having a conversation with you. Videos create a connection with the viewers that leads to action.

At the end of the day, marketing videos work because they entertain the audience. They are engaging, exciting, and relatable, creating a more powerful connection, emotional response, and likelihood of taking action.
