Social Media Platform Breakdown: Pros and Cons

Nowadays, social media is one of the main channels used by companies to reach their target audience. But with so many different social networks available, how do you chose which one will be best for you? Below is a Pro-Con List that covers Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Snapchat.

Facebook

Pros

Facebook is the biggest social media site out there. It has over 1.65 billion users worldwide. It’s very easy to get a business started on Facebook. Also, its new Live feature is a powerful way for a business to connect with their audience.

Cons

Facebook is becoming a more pay to play network. Meaning, you have to pay for access to be able to play games that show up on your newsfeed. Another con for Facebook is that many teens and millennials are using different social media networks. So, if you want to reach a younger audience you might want to pick a different site.

Twitter

Pros

Twitter is the go-to site for speedy updates. With Twitter you can now see the world through someone else’s eyes by using their compliment app Periscope, which is growing in popularity. Also, if a business wants to put their ads in Twitter it’s becoming easier to do so.

Cons

The growth of Twitter is stalling, there are not many new people joining the site. Also, anyone who does decide to join does not stay connected for very long. Twitter now has a new algorithm timeline update. This means that Tweets no longer appear in chronological order, they appear in the order relevant to the user.

Instagram

Pros

Instagram is the go to social media network for teens and millennials. It is a visual pleasing network and there are many ways to connect with other users on it. A big pro is that many Facebook users are also active on Instagram. This gives more businesses opportunities to connect with their clients.

Cons

Like Twitter, Instagram now has an algorithmic timeline which could affect it in the future. Also, more and more advertisers are now using Instagram.

LinkedIn

Pros

LinkedIn is very reliable for professionals. It is the go to place to find true leaders. It is also becoming stronger in gathering data and information for businesses.

Cons

There are not many users being active on LinkedIn. It requires a lot of time commitment and multiple posts for your content to even be seen.

Pinterest

Pros

Pinterest is very popular with women, but is growing in popularity with men. Since its increase in popularity it has also been growing with the ability for businesses to post ads. Pinterest now gives you the option to buy things you have pinned.

Cons

Pinterest can be very confusing to learn at first and takes a while to get used to. It also requires you to have good quality images while posting your stuff. Even though it is growing in popularity with men it is not the ideal network to use.

Snapchat

Pros

Snapchat is very popular with teens. It gives businesses the opportunity to promote new products and events. It also gives businesses better ad platforms.

Cons

Snapchat is harder to learn for older users. There is also no way to keep track of success when advertising with it.
