Self-Care at Work

Self-care is important and we all know that right? We try to take some time for ourselves when we do have a free minute where we’re not finishing a project at work or taking care of something at home. But, sometimes there just aren’t enough minutes in the day! By the time we actually get everything done (or done enough) we’re exhausted and ready to go to bed! No self care happening on a day like that!

Sound like something you experience? There’s an easy way to fix it! Try adding self-care into your work routine! We know, it sounds crazy. We just got done saying there aren’t enough minutes in a day after all! But it’s important to take just a few minutes to focus on yourself so you’re happy and productive! Here are a few things you can try!

Get comfortable
Sit on an uncomfortable chair in a freezing office all day? Change that! Bring in a pillow and a jacket or blanket. You don’t want to be miserable all day or focusing on how cold you are. You spend a lot of time at work. Make sure you’re comfortable. It’s a small thing you can do that will make you feel great!

Keep your desk and area clean
Okay, so this one might seem impossible. I mean, during a hectic, busy day, the last thing you have time for is organizing! But maybe you spend a few extra minutes at work after quitting time cleaning up and organizing. When you walk in the next morning you’ll be excited to see your desk and ready to tackle the day!

Take small breaks
There are projects to get done. Emails to respond to. And the list goes on and on. But if you stare at a computer screen all day, it’s good to walk away and take a little break! Plus, a quick walk never hurt anyone. You can also take a small break after completing a big task. Reward yourself with a warm cup of coffee and get ready to move onto the next item on your to do list.

Do some stretching
Sitting at a desk all day can start to become uncomfortable by the afternoon. Do some quick stretches at your desk and loosen up! You’ll feel good and hopefully will be more comfortable after a quick stretch session.

Bring healthy snacks
If you love an afternoon snack, replace those cookies or chips with some fruit or nuts! Obviously they’re better for you, but you’ll feel better too knowing you’re choosing the healthy option.

Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Small, simple things can make you feel great and keep you productive and ready to finish your day strong!
