Self-Care: 4 Things to Start Doing

Oftentimes, when we think of self-care, we think of taking time to exercise and eating healthy. While those are good and a great way to take care of yourself, self-care is more than that. It’s not only taking care of your body, but your mind too! And if you’re like us, that part can be a little bit tricky. There’s a lot going on and it seems like we always have something in the back of our mind and we’re constantly thinking about what we need to do next. Anyone else? If so, try to do a few of these things!

Don’t feel bad for saying no
It can be really hard to tell someone no when they ask if you’re available to do something. We wonder what they’ll think of us, we don’t want to let them down, and we like being people that can be counted on! But sometimes, you need to put yourself first and just say no. It might be hard, but when you don’t have anything else added to your plate, you’ll be thankful!

Take some time for yourself
We know it sounds impossible. How can you take time for yourself when there are so many other things going on and so many other people you need to take care of? Even if it’s just for a few minutes, taking some time to be by yourself, doing something you love might make you feel refreshed! Do some shopping, read a book, get a massage. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the time to yourself! It might seem crazy, but when you return to all of those things and people who need you, you’ll be ready to tackle whatever comes your way!

Get plenty of sleep
Anyone guilty of staying up juuust a little bit later to get one more thing done? While you may feel productive then, how will you feel in the morning? A good night’s sleep is so important and it’s often something we cut back on when we get busy. If you feel stressed, try to get a good night’s sleep and see how great you feel the next day!

Unplug
We hear a lot about unplugging before bed so our brains can slow down and aren’t so active right before we go to sleep. But unplugging doesn’t always have to happen right before bed! When you take a few minutes to yourself, silence your phone. Focus on yourself, and not the notification you just received. We know it might not always be possible. But if you’re taking the time to practice self-care, then do it without any possible distractions!

It can be difficult to focus on ourselves, but when we practice self-care we’re allowing ourselves to refresh so we’re able to be our best!
