Pulse’s 4 Social Media Predictions for 2017

If there is one thing for certain we know about social media, is that it’s constantly changing. One second we think we have it figured out, the next they switch it up all over again. Which is why it’s important to adapt to the ever-changing social media platforms and create something that will stand out.

In 2016, Snapchat introduced filters, then went head-to-head with Instagram over stories. Facebook showed us Facebook Live, and Twitter no longer limits us to 140 characters.

Head spinning yet?

As 2016 has come and gone we are curious to find out what will change in 2017. Here are Pulse’s social media predictions for 2017.

VIDEO!

That’s basically all we have to say about 2017. Video is going to be huge! Whether it be live video, rehearsed, or unrehearsed it will be out there and it will be seen. Social media users are demanding more in-the-moment content, and videos will give them that access. Many apps are participating in “live video” functions and we think it will continue to grow in popularity. These live videos give you the chance to reach a larger audience and connect with them in a different way. We recently tried our first (short but super sweet) Facebook Live at Pulse, go check it out 😉

Social Commerce

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest all offer ways for users to purchase products from their apps. All of these apps give users the options to buy their products right then and there. Many users find this annoying and others find it very convenient. Make sure your brand knows how to leverage between these two types of users. Remember, social media wasn’t initially created for advertising, it was meant for people to interact. So the next time you try to generate sales through social media, try it from a unique angle.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is still new, but we think it will make a big impact in 2017. For example, early last year everyone was blown away by Pokemon Go. No one expected it to take off the way it did, but everyone was amazed by the experience of it. Same goes for Snapchat and all its different filters. These apps have taught us that users are ready for augmented reality experiences and that there’s a lot of potential for it.

Mobile First

We know that mobile has been around for awhile but it’s still just as important to make sure you are optimized for it. Mobile has taken over desktop traffic which makes it as important as ever to make the mobile experience as good as possible. Make sure you put mobile first.

Mobile. Mobile. Mobile. We seriously can’t stress it enough.

Well there you have it, our predictions for social media in 2017. We love to learn new things, especially when it comes to social media. Sometimes it can get pretty overwhelming, and if you’re not sure where start with your social media, don’t worry, Pulse has got you covered!
