3 Ways to Market to Millennial’s

Sometimes marketing can be tough. Who do we target and how? What do they like, what do they want to see more of? We need to do a lot of research before marketing to certain groups. But what about when we market to younger customers? Sometimes, when people just hear the word ‘millennial’ they roll their eyes because, well, among and older generation, they’re often thought of as difficult and spoiled. Now, that’s not coming from me, I am a millennial. I would never speak ill of my people 😉  I like marketing to young people! I’ve found that once we learn more about them, it’s just like marketing to anyone else and not as daunting as it might seem.

To market to a younger group, you have to be where they are.

And for many young people, they’re on social media. But it’s not enough to just join the social media sites you know.  Facebook might seem obvious, but young people don’t use Facebook. If you want to actually reach your audience on social media, you’ll need to find out what they’re using which might be Instagram or Snapchat. You can reach a large audience on social media and it’s inexpensive! Might as well give it a try!

Another way to reach this group is to modernize.

That might mean you update your logo or find new create ways to advertise to this audience. Younger people do business with a company who looks relevant – not outdated – and get invested in brands, not just services. They also like to see things in real time so show up on Facebook Live or in Instagram stories. It might take a little getting used to, but you’ll practice will make you better, or you can always get training or hire help.

Lastly, learn about and relate to younger people.

Great storytelling has  been in high demand in recent years and has evolved into the latest marketing rage. Simply put, if you’re not currently letting your millennial customers share their experiences with your brand, you’re missing out. U.S. Millennials have about $1.3 trillion in yearly buying power, and 74 percent of consumers turn to social media to inform their buying decisions.

It can seem impossible to target a group who seems to change constantly, but it’s not! And once you learn what works for you and your business you might be able to form relationships with young customers and keep them coming back! Just remember, like marketing to any group, to continue to always learn about them.
