Don’t Make These Mistakes on Instagram

We recently wrote a blog about what makes a good Instagram post. Good photos, content, and staying relevant will help you have a solid account! But there are also a few mistakes you could make. Don’t worry, they’re easy to fix!

Make sure you can be seen!

This one may seem obvious, but it’d be a good idea to check right now to ensure your account is set to public. For a personal page it makes more sense to have your page set to private. By doing that, if someone comes to your page they have to request to follow and it has to be approved by you. But it you’re a business account, you definitely want a public page so they can see your content and what you offer. Even if they decide not to follow you, they at least had a chance to see what you’re like and what you offer. Set those accounts to public!

#Hashtag (but not too much).

If you aren’t using hashtags, you’re missing out on a big opportunity to reach more people for free! Hashtags are used often in social media and you’ll want to be sure to include them in your Instagram posts. Especially because users can search hashtags. If you choose the right one, you can be seen without even really trying! You can include up to 30 hashtags, but that doesn’t mean you should. Make sure to pick hashtags that relate to your post, product, business, and customers. This helps your content become more relevant, and perform better.

Don’t be inconsistent.

A big mistake on any social media site? Not posting consistently. If you’re quiet on Instagram, users might come to your page, but see you haven’t posted in a while. And why should they follow an account who doesn’t update them with what’s going on? If they found you, chances are they’re interested in what you do. They’ll want to see photos of your product or service. Make sure you have a page they’ll want to follow by continually adding to it!

Be sure your bio isn’t blank.

Each Instagram account has a bio. And each one should have some content there! Even if it’s just a little bit about what you do and who you are, it’s a good idea to include some text. No, everyone might not read it because you’ll have so many great photos below it, right?? But if there’s any question on what you do, maybe because you offer a service and not a product you can easily show in your photos, the bio is a great place to make sure everyone who visits knows what you’re offering.

We know getting good at something takes time. So if you’re new to Instagram, don’t get discouraged if you’ve made some of these mistakes! If you’ve been using the social media site for a while, there’s never a bad time to go through and make sure you’re doing everything you can be!
