Don’t Make These 3 Marketing Mistakes

Make a mistake lately? Who hasn’t?? And while we hate to make them, mistakes are a great way to learn. Sure, no one tries to make mistakes or wakes up thinking, “Hmm, I wonder what I should mess up on today,” just so they can learn a great lesson. But you have to admit you’ve learned a lot about yourself or your work by making and learning from your mistakes.

Unfortunately, sometimes we don’t even know we’re making errors. That can happen a lot in marketing. We think what we’re doing is working or there’s no room for improvement. The truth is, marketing can change quite a bit, so there’s always room for improvement. Make sure you’re not making these three marketing mistakes!

Not doing your research
It can be easy to just guess on what your target market wants to see and hope for the best. But has that ever really worked? Have you seen the results you were hoping for and got more business from guessing? Probably not. So do your research! Find out the best way to reach your potential customers, who they are, what they like, and why they would want your product or service. To keep up with your target market, you have to do your research.

Not using new platforms
We know trying something new can be scary, but in marketing, you’re missing out if you don’t! Video is popular and gets seen more than text does. Facebook Live is a fairly new and great way to reach your potential customers. So why wouldn’t you use it? People have their reasons, and we get it – going live on the internet can be terrifying! I mean, who can say exactly what they want in one take?? But practice and feel comfortable with your message. Show you’re relevant by trying and using all of the new platforms that come out.

You don’t get repeat customers
Entrepreneur says the probability of selling to an existing customer is 60%-70%. The probability of selling to a new prospect is somewhere in the 5% to 20% range. We always want to get new customers, see how we can reach a new market, and give discounts to first timers. But what about your current customers? Make sure they’re still taken care of even after they do business with you! You want them to have a good experience so they keep coming back.

The new year will be here before we know it and it’s a great time to take a look at your marketing plan. Are you making any of these mistakes? If you are, learn from them! And have a great marketing year in 2019!
