5 Easy Ways to Practice Self-Care

If you didn’t already know, we appreciate self-care. We think it’s important and try to squeeze it in when we can. But, who are we kidding? Life gets in the way and the time we were planning for ourselves too often gets taken away!

We don’t always have a ton of time to spend on ourselves but luckily, self-care doesn’t have to be an entire afternoon off at the spa or on the golf course. (But wouldn’t that be nice?!) Even if it’s just 10 minutes, a little bit of time spent focusing on ourselves can recharge us and get us ready to tackle the next item on our to-do list! Here are a few simple things that won’t take a lot of time!

Go for a walk
Whether you decide to walk around the block a few times, or just walk away from your desk to get a break, a short walk could be just what you need. It’s a chance to leave your computer and maybe your phone and focus on you and your thoughts for a little bit. No replying to emails or stressing over projects. Leaving what you’re working on for a little bit can be a good thing!

Grab coffee with a friend
So, this one could take a while. I mean, who hasn’t lost track of time when catching up with a friend over coffee? But the beauty of this is, it could take as long or as short as you’d like it to! Invite a friend to meet you to chat over coffee or ask a coworker if you can grab them one. Taking a little break and enjoying your favorite drink are both great, simple ways to treat yourself!

Read
Again, this could be for an hour or 15 minutes. If you have the time, sit down with a good book for a while. If you just need a quick break, read an article about something you’re interested in. Today, everything comes at us so quickly and we take in a lot of videos and information. Take time to read or learn about something you choose instead of what’s right in front of you.

Go to your favorite spot
This could be your favorite spot in town, your building, or even your house. A quiet room where you can get a few minutes to yourself is a great place to take some deep breaths and regain your energy.

Unplug
If you’re having one of those days where the notifications won’t stop, unplug! We know, it sounds crazy. People need to talk to you! But if you step away and keep hearing the notifications, can you really focus on yourself? Unplug for 15 minutes and when you come back, you’ll be ready to reply to everyone.

Self-care doesn’t have to be hard or take a long time. The next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just need some time alone, take a little bit and do it! Your responsibilities will still be there when you get back and you’ll be better for taking time for yourself!
