National Stress Awareness Day

Ever have one of those weeks where you just can’t stay on top of things? Uhh, of course, right? Who hasn’t? Maybe you keep getting interrupted, can’t get anything accomplished, and your to-do list keeps getting longer and longer. And that’s just at work! Then, you go home and find an even longer to-do list there.

Now, maybe this doesn’t describe you and you don’t even know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed because you have a great system for getting things done. If so, please stop reading and share your secret with us!

But, if you do feel a little stressed from time to time, good news! It’s National Stress Awareness Day! If we didn’t already feel enough stress during the week, we now have a day making us really aware of how stressed we can be… Which might be a good thing because sometimes it’s best to stop and realize how stressed you are. Only then can you do something about it! So, in honor of National Stress Awareness Day, here are a few simple things you can do to relax.

Breathe
It sounds simple and it is! When you’re feeling overwhelmed and like you can’t take on one more thing, take a few deep breaths. A deep breath can calm you down quickly and it’s something you can do anytime and anywhere you feel stressed!

Exercise
This can be something short and simple like a walk around the block or a more strenuous form of exercise. No matter what you prefer, exercise releases endorphins that can boost your mood. Take a little break and let out your built up stress or anger while doing something good for your body. It’s amazing what some fresh air and exercise can do for you!

Unplug
Are you ever in the middle of a project that’s due in the afternoon and you keep hearing your phone go off with emails, texts, and updates? Just adds to an already stressful situation, right? We know, phones are important and we get frustrated when people can’t be reached. But if you unplug for a little bit, you’ll be able to get your project done in peace and then you can come back to all of those notifications with a clear head when you don’t have something else in the back of your mind.

Sleep
A good night’s sleep is always important, but if you’re feeling especially stressed or know you may have a stressful day ahead, make sure you get plenty of sleep. Naps can be helpful too, although we don’t recommend sleeping on the job 😉 When we’re tired we can be easily agitated and stressed. Unwind a little earlier in the evening so you’re able to go to bed at a decent time and get a good start on your day.

Sure, stress is inevitable. We all have those days where we just can’t keep up. Luckily, there are ways to respond to stress that can make it seem a little more manageable. So, Happy National Stress Awareness Day! We hope you have a fairly stress-free week!
